Fire Prevention Permit Fees

General Permits and Fees

A base rate of $10.00 per each percent of capacity with a minimum fee of $75.00 and a maximum fee of $500.00 for permits, certificates, and approvals related to conditions, operations, or materials hazardous to life or property.

New Construction and Alterations

A minimum fee of $100.00 or 0.5% of the total construction value, whichever is greater, for new construction additions and interior and exterior alterations.

Fire Protection Systems (Fire Alarm, Sprinkler, and Standpipe Systems)

Similar to new construction, a minimum fee of $100.00 or 0.5% of the total construction value, whichever is greater, is levied for permits involving these systems.

Technology Fee

A 2% technology fee on the total permit cost, aimed at funding new technology acquisitions to improve service efficiency.

Revision and Addendum Plans

A fee of $75.00 per hour or part thereof for reviews caused by revisions made by the owner. No additional fee for changes made by the Fire Marshal, the Chief of the Fire Prevention Bureau, or their designees.

Additional Fire Fees

Fireworks Display Permits: A fee of $150.00 for application submission, with additional fees for inspections and personnel required for fire watch.
Fire Hydrant Flow Tests: A fee of $150.00 per test, in accordance with NFPA 291 and Broward County Amendments F-22.
Miscellaneous Permits: A fee of $100.00 per permit for special uses or conditions, covering code research, plan review, and inspections.
Fire Department Survey: A charge of $75.00 for surveys conducted to establish water supply adequacy and other insurance information.

Overtime Inspections and Services

An hourly fee at 1.5 times the hourly rate of the employee for services extending beyond normal business hours. A minimum fee equal to three hours at the overtime rate if the service starts before or after normal hours.

Temporary Use Certificate or Partial Certificate of Occupancy

A fee of $550.00 per unit, with the same fee applicable for any renewal or extension.

Engineering Permit Fees

Engineering Fee

The engineering fee for a permit is 4% of the cost of the proposed construction, with a minimum fee of $100.

Double Permit Fee

If construction work requiring an engineering permit starts before the permit is issued, a penalty of 100% of the usual application fee is applied in addition to the required application fee.

Plan Revisions or Change of Contractor

A fee of $100 is charged for all revised plans submitted for review or for a change of contractor application. Additional work shown on the revised plans incurs a permit fee based on 4% of the construction cost of the additional work.

Re-inspection Fees

A re-inspection fee of $30 is charged if work does not conform to approved plans or the city's ordinances. If additional inspections are necessary due to specific reasons listed in the ordinance (e.g., wrong address provided, work not ready), a fee four times the amount of the first re-inspection is imposed.

Nonrefundable Fees

All permit fees and re-inspection fees are nonrefundable.
